Medicare DMEPOS Improper Inpatient Payments
DMEPOS items provided to an eligible Medicare inpatient are generally furnished directly by the facility or under arrangements between the facility and the supplier. Normally, Medicare makes no supplier payment.
In a recent report, the Office of Inspector General (OIG) determined that Medicare improperly paid suppliers for Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS) items provided during inpatient stays.
