Medicare Disaster Related Puerto Rico Earthquakes

The President declared that, as a result of the effects of earthquakes, a major disaster exists in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. On January 8, 2020, The Secretary of the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) declared that a public health emergency exists in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico retroactive to December 28, 2019, and authorized waivers and modifications under §1135 of the Social Security Act. On January 8, 2020, the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) authorized waivers under §1812(f) of the Social Security Act for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico retroactive to December 28, 2019, for those people who are evacuated, transferred, or otherwise dislocated as a result of the effect of the earthquakes.
