Calculating Enteral Nutrition Units of Service – Rounding Rules
Effective for dates of service on or after February 6, 2024, standard rounding rules no longer apply to the calculation of enteral nutrition units of service. Suppliers should round up fractional units to the next whole number. Rounding up ensures beneficiaries receive medically necessary enteral nutrition required to sustain their overall health status.
For example: Beneficiary qualifies for 23.25 units of enteral nutrition. Round up the units of service to 24.
CGS developed the Enteral Nutrition Units of Service Calculator to help suppliers bill the correct units of service. Just enter the date span and calories per day to calculate the units of service to report on the claim.
Refer to the Enteral Nutrition Local Coverage Determination (LCD) (L38955) and Enteral Nutrition Policy Article (A58833) for coverage, coding, and documentation guidelines.
