"Part-time" Definition for Skilled Nursing and Home Health Aide
Medicare Benefit Policy Manual (CMS Pub. 100-02, Ch. 7 §50.7)
Medicare pays only for intermittent or part-time skilled nursing. Part-time requirements include the following:
- Combines skilled nursing and home health aide services
- Applies to skilled nursing and home health aide hours worked each week and each day, up to and including 28 hours per week or less than 8 hours per day
- If the combined skilled nursing and home health aide hours increase to 35 hours per week, but are less than 8 hours per day, then this additional increase in hours is subject to review on a case-by-case basis by the Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) to determine the reasonableness of such additional care.
