No Longer Accepting Requests to Access CWF Eligibility Systems

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has instructed Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs), including CGS, to stop accepting requests for direct access to the Common Working File (CWF) eligibility transactions, HIQA, HIQH, ELGA, and ELGH, effective immediately. In addition, any pending requests will not be processed. This means that if you don’t already have access to HIQA, HIQH, ELGA, or ELGH, you will need to use another source to obtain eligibility information.

In December 2012 the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued MLN Matters Special Edition Article SE1249External PDF, which announced plans to discontinue the CWF Beneficiary health insurance eligibility transactions. In that same article, CMS also announced that the HIPAA Eligibility Transaction System (HETS) would be the single source for this data. For additional information about HETS, refer to the HIPPA Eligibility Transaction System (HETS)External Website Web page on the CMS website.
