Insufficient Documentation of Therapeutic Shoes for Persons with Diabetes to be Addressed in National Webinar on November 2, 2022

Data from the 2021 Comprehensive Error Rate Testing (CERT) Report shows that diabetic shoes had 67.9% improper payment rate with projected improper payments of $70,410,351. The CERT contractor reviewed 129 claims for diabetic shoes from July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020.

To address the trends and provide information on documentation requirements for diabetic shoes, the DME CERT Outreach and Education Task Force will conduct a national webinar on November 2, 2022, at 3 pm ET/2 pm CT.

The current error trends of claims show that the top error for diabetic shoes is insufficient documentation at 79.8%.
