National Provider Identifier Issue Update
CGS first notified providers of an issue related to the validity of National Provider Identifiers (NPIs) in an email notification sent yesterday, May 17, 2017. Research determined that the NPI crosswalk was causing the issue. This issue was resolved after the Fiscal Intermediary Standard System (FISS)/Direct Data Entry (DDE) was taken down yesterday from 4:30 PM EDT to 5:30 PM EDT in order to load a corrected crosswalk file. FISS/DDE functions are now working properly. Claims affected by this issue were suspended in status/location S MPROV and have been released for continued processing.
NOTE: Claims submitted electronically via 5010 yesterday, May 17, 2017, have been retransmitted and will appear in FISS by Saturday, May 20, 2017.
Note for Hospice Providers: If you were unable to meet the requirement that hospice Notices of Election (NOEs) must be submitted and accepted within 5 calendar days due to this system issue and the FISS/DDE outage, CGS will grant an exception for the timely filing requirement. Please note that when submitting your claim, include modifier KX to indicate that you are requesting an exception for a late submission of the NOE, and be sure to include a statement in the REMARKS field on FISS claim page 04 referencing the NPI issue that occurred on May 17, 2017 and this article. For additional information, refer to the Requesting an Exception for an Untimely NOE Web page.
