Update to the National Provider Identifier (NPI) / Crosswalk Issue

CGS sent an email message on October 5, 2015 informing providers of an issue with the National Provider Identifier (NPI) falling off the crosswalk, which is causing home health billing requests for anticipated payment (RAPs) and claims and hospice Notices of Election (NOEs) and claims to go to the provider's Return to Provider (RTP) file. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) continues to work on this issue, with an anticipated resolution by Monday, October 26, 2015.

Please note that the Fiscal Intermediary Standard System (FISS) is unable to assign a PTAN, therefore, providers are unable to see the RAPS, NOEs and claims, affected by this issue in their RTP file. In addition, in some instances, claims are rejecting when a batch transfer is submitted.

CGS will provide an update as soon as additional information is available. Please note, if an NOE is submitted untimely due to this issue, the exception request will be granted when the necessary documentation is submitted.
